Random Grass Type Pokémon Generator

Random Grass-Type Pokémon

Applin
Pick a random Grass-type Pokémon from all 127 Grass types across nine generations. Great for monotype teams, type-locked runs, and trivia.

About the Random Grass-Type Pokémon Generator

This generator picks a random Grass-type Pokémon from all 127 species that have Grass as one of their types, from Bulbasaur to Hydrapple. 47 of them are pure Grass types, and the other 80 pair Grass with a second type. Every generation from Kanto to Paldea is included.

Grass-type Pokémon are based on plants, seeds, flowers and the small animals that live among them. Whether you want a new team member, a prompt for a drawing, or a trivia question, one click gives you a Grass-type Pokémon to work with.

Each result is the Pokémon's standard form. Regional forms, Mega Evolutions and other alternate forms that change a Pokémon's type are not included, so the list matches what you would find by searching the National Pokédex for Grass-type Pokémon. If you want any type at all, the Random Pokémon Generator covers the whole National Pokédex, and the generation generators let you stick to a single region.

Grass Type Strengths and Weaknesses

The Grass type has been part of the series since the first games in Generation I. Knowing how it matches up against other types is the key to using Grass-type Pokémon well in battle. These are the current type-chart matchups:

When attacking with Grass moves

  • Super effective against: Ground, Rock, Water
  • Not very effective against: Flying, Poison, Bug, Steel, Fire, Grass, Dragon
  • No effect on: none

When defending as a Grass type

  • Weak to: Flying, Poison, Bug, Fire, Ice
  • Resists: Ground, Water, Grass, Electric
  • Immune to: none

Dual-type Pokémon combine the matchups of both their types, so a Grass-type Pokémon's second type can cancel out a weakness or double it.

Building a Grass-Type Team

Covering the weak spots

A team built around Grass types needs teammates that can take the hits Grass can't. For each weakness, these types take reduced or no damage:

  • Flying attacks: resisted by Rock, Steel, Electric
  • Poison attacks: resisted by Poison, Ground, Rock, Ghost, Steel
  • Bug attacks: resisted by Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ghost, Steel, Fire, Fairy
  • Fire attacks: resisted by Rock, Fire, Water, Dragon
  • Ice attacks: resisted by Steel, Fire, Water, Ice

Common type pairings

80 of the 127 Grass-type Pokémon have a second type. The most common partners are:

  • Grass/Poison: 14 Pokémon
  • Grass/Ghost: 10 Pokémon
  • Grass/Dark: 7 Pokémon

A second type changes a Pokémon's matchups, so two Grass types with different partners can need very different teammates.

Grass-type Pokémon by generation

How many Grass-type Pokémon each generation introduced:

Gen 1: 14 Gen 2: 10 Gen 3: 17 Gen 4: 14 Gen 5: 20 Gen 6: 9 Gen 7: 13 Gen 8: 10 Gen 9: 20

Tips for battling with Grass types

Grass moves hit Ground, Rock, Water Pokémon for double damage, so a Grass-type Pokémon is a strong pick whenever you expect to face those types. Remember that a Pokémon's own type gives matching moves a 50% power boost, so Grass types get the most out of Grass moves.

How to Use the Grass-Type Pokémon Generator

  • Monotype teams: Roll six times to build an all-Grass team, then work out how to cover its weaknesses to Flying, Poison, Bug, Fire, Ice.
  • Type-locked challenge runs: Only catch the Grass-type Pokémon the generator picks for your next playthrough or Nuzlocke.
  • Trivia & quizzes: Ask friends to name the result's second type, its evolution or the generation it debuted in.
  • Drawing prompts: Sketch the Pokémon you get, or redesign it in a different art style.
  • Gym leader roleplay: Build a themed Grass-type gym team for a tabletop game or fan story.
