Random Flying Type Pokémon Generator

Random Flying-Type Pokémon

Fletchling
Pick a random Flying-type Pokémon from all 109 Flying types across nine generations. Great for monotype teams, type-locked runs, and trivia.

About the Random Flying-Type Pokémon Generator

This generator picks a random Flying-type Pokémon from all 109 species that have Flying as one of their types, from Charizard to Iron Jugulis. 3 of them are pure Flying types, and the other 106 pair Flying with a second type. Every generation from Kanto to Paldea is included.

Flying-type Pokémon are mostly birds, bats and other creatures that take to the air. Whether you want a new team member, a prompt for a drawing, or a trivia question, one click gives you a Flying-type Pokémon to work with.

Each result is the Pokémon's standard form. Regional forms, Mega Evolutions and other alternate forms that change a Pokémon's type are not included, so the list matches what you would find by searching the National Pokédex for Flying-type Pokémon. If you want any type at all, the Random Pokémon Generator covers the whole National Pokédex, and the generation generators let you stick to a single region.

Flying Type Strengths and Weaknesses

The Flying type has been part of the series since the first games in Generation I. Knowing how it matches up against other types is the key to using Flying-type Pokémon well in battle. These are the current type-chart matchups:

When attacking with Flying moves

  • Super effective against: Fighting, Bug, Grass
  • Not very effective against: Rock, Steel, Electric
  • No effect on: none

When defending as a Flying type

  • Weak to: Rock, Electric, Ice
  • Resists: Fighting, Bug, Grass
  • Immune to: Ground

Dual-type Pokémon combine the matchups of both their types, so a Flying-type Pokémon's second type can cancel out a weakness or double it.

Building a Flying-Type Team

Covering the weak spots

A team built around Flying types needs teammates that can take the hits Flying can't. For each weakness, these types take reduced or no damage:

  • Rock attacks: resisted by Fighting, Ground, Steel
  • Electric attacks: resisted by Ground, Grass, Electric, Dragon
  • Ice attacks: resisted by Steel, Fire, Water, Ice

Common type pairings

106 of the 109 Flying-type Pokémon have a second type. The most common partners are:

  • Flying/Normal: 27 Pokémon
  • Flying/Bug: 13 Pokémon
  • Flying/Water: 8 Pokémon

A second type changes a Pokémon's matchups, so two Flying types with different partners can need very different teammates.

Flying-type Pokémon by generation

How many Flying-type Pokémon each generation introduced:

Gen 1: 19 Gen 2: 19 Gen 3: 12 Gen 4: 14 Gen 5: 18 Gen 6: 8 Gen 7: 8 Gen 8: 5 Gen 9: 6

Tips for battling with Flying types

Flying moves hit Fighting, Bug, Grass Pokémon for double damage, so a Flying-type Pokémon is a strong pick whenever you expect to face those types. On defence, Flying types are completely immune to Ground moves, which makes them useful for switching in safely against those attacks. Remember that a Pokémon's own type gives matching moves a 50% power boost, so Flying types get the most out of Flying moves.

How to Use the Flying-Type Pokémon Generator
