Sylvari Name Generator - Guild Wars 2

Generate Sylvari names from Guild Wars 2 — the youngest of Tyria's races, plant-like humanoids who emerge from the Pale Tree fully grown with no childhood memories, guided only by the Dream (a shared subconscious). Sylvari are curious, idealistic, and driven by the Cycle of their birth (dawn, day, dusk, or night). Sylvari names are drawn from Celtic, Arthurian, and Gaelic traditions — a deliberate design choice by ArenaNet to give them a mythic, ancient-yet-innocent quality. Names like Caithe, Trahearne, Canach, and Faolain are typical of male and female Sylvari respectively. This generator draws from an extensive pool of authentic Celtic and Arthurian names.

About the Sylvari Name Generator

The Sylvari Name Generator produces authentic names for the Sylvari — the youngest race of Guild Wars 2, plant-like humanoids who emerge from the Pale Tree fully grown and guided by the Dream. Sylvari names are drawn from Celtic, Arthurian, and Gaelic traditions, the deliberate design choice by ArenaNet to give Tyria's newest race a mythic, ancient-yet-innocent quality.

Unlike other Guild Wars races, Sylvari typically use only a single given name — no surname. Their names echo the Celtic and Arthurian heroes of legend: Caithe, Trahearne, Canach, Faolain, Malyck. The generator draws from an extensive pool of authentic Celtic, Irish, Welsh, Cornish, Breton, and Arthurian names for both male and female characters.

Use these names for Guild Wars 2 Sylvari character creation, fan fiction set in the Grove or the Pale Tree, tabletop RPG campaigns in the Guild Wars universe, or any project needing Celtic-flavoured names for plant-people, fae, or forest-born characters.

The Sylvari in Guild Wars 2

Born of the Dream

The Sylvari are humanoid plant beings who grow from the Pale Tree, a massive sentient tree tended by the centaur Ventari. Unlike other races who experience childhood, Sylvari emerge fully formed from the Pale Tree, already able to walk, speak, and reason. They inherit knowledge through the Dream — a shared subconscious realm — but must experience the world themselves to understand what the Dream only outlined.

Every Sylvari belongs to one of four Cycles depending on when they were born from the Pale Tree: Dawn (morning), Day (afternoon), Dusk (evening), or Night. The Cycle shapes a Sylvari's personality and their approach to their personal Dream Quest.

Notable Sylvari Characters

Caithe is the most prominent Sylvari character — a founding member of Destiny's Edge and one of the most complex figures in Guild Wars 2's story, torn between her love for her people and her loyalty to Faolain, the corrupted Luminary who led the Nightmare Court. Trahearne was the first Firstborn Sylvari to take a commanding role, becoming Marshal of the Pact.

Canach is a fan-favourite antihero — acerbic, witty, morally grey — who began as a villain and became one of Dragon's Watch's most reliable members. Faolain, Malyck, Wynne, and dozens of other Sylvari characters populate the rich narrative across six years of Living World updates.

What Makes a Good Sylvari Name?

Caithe

Short, melodic Celtic names with soft consonants — Caithe, Canach, Faolain — have an organic quality that feels appropriate for beings who literally grew from a tree.

Trahearne

Welsh and Cornish names with distinctive digraphs (rh, th, ll) and unusual vowel patterns give Sylvari names an otherworldly quality that separates them from human naming conventions.

Malyck

Arthurian names (Perceval, Gawain, Iseult) blend with authentic Gaelic names (Aoife, Fionn, Cormac) to produce the full range of Sylvari naming styles from gentle to heroic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do Sylvari names sound Celtic? +
ArenaNet deliberately chose Celtic and Arthurian naming traditions for the Sylvari to give them a mythic, ancient-yet-innocent quality. The Pale Tree that births all Sylvari was tended by the centaur Ventari, who drew from the Mists of legend — a thematic connection that makes Celtic mythological names appropriate.
What are the four Sylvari Cycles? +
Sylvari are born from the Pale Tree at different times of day: the Cycle of Dawn (morning, aspiring and eager), Cycle of Day (afternoon, active and idealistic), Cycle of Dusk (evening, introspective), and Cycle of Night (mysterious and often associated with the Nightmare Court). Your Cycle is part of the Guild Wars 2 character biography.
Is this generator free? +
Yes, completely free with no account required.
Can I use these names for my Guild Wars 2 Sylvari? +
Yes — the generator draws from the same Celtic, Gaelic, Welsh, and Arthurian naming traditions that ArenaNet used for all canonical Sylvari characters. The names fit naturally within Guild Wars 2's Sylvari aesthetic.
Is there an API for this generator? +
Yes — FunGenerators offers an API with access to hundreds of name generators. Visit fungenerators.com for API subscription plans.
Do Sylvari have surnames? +
Typically no — Sylvari use only a single given name. In Guild Wars 2, characters like Caithe, Trahearne, Canach, and Faolain are known by one name. Some Sylvari may adopt an epithet, location reference, or informal second identifier, but a formal surname is not part of Sylvari culture.
